MEDIA
AND POLITICS.
The
media runs politics, and scare campaigns are all the go these days
when it comes to deciding who next gets into office. Here in Australia
we have just had a federal election - and the result was driven by
the media. These days there are really only a couple of issues that
trigger peoples decisions in elections. The economy, health, education,
interest rates and, oh yes, National Security.
Here
the Liberal Party won the election, based on interest rates. They
agressively put out a fear-driving series of TV ads warning people
if they voted Labour in, interest rates would go up. The people of
Australia are concerned about health, education and all the rest,
but the second they're warned of rising interest rates, nothing else
matters. They freak out and vote in response to the fear campaign.
How
sad it is that people have become so greed-driven, to the point that
crucially underfunded areas such as health and education take a back
seat because they want to pay their bloody house off sooner. The irony
is that, despite which party gets into power, interest rates will
do the same thing. Why? Well if you check the figures you'll notice
that interest rates are a global thing. When interest rates go up
in the US, the UK follows, and so does Australia. The short-sighted
fear-driven people of Australia voted through greed. Oh, and guess
what, less than a week after the election is over, it's widely anticipated
that interest rates are going to take a big leap upwards. So voting
out of fear and greed has done nothing to change anything. Except,
we still have desperately under-funded hospitals and schools. If we
were not a commonwealth country, we would surely have to call ourselves
a Banana republic.
Now it's America's turn. Here we go again. Careful manipulation of
the media to get to scared people will surely put Mr. Bush back in
power. Why? Homeland security already! Terrorism! Anachy! Mayhem!
Bring it on! Scare the shit out of the population and they'll vote
you back in! It's a proven way to win already! Schools, hospitals.
Forget them! The winning formula is fear-by-media!
Now I'm not the kind of guy that believes in suppression of any kind
- ESPECIALLY in the media. However, I really believe that political
advertising should be restricted from scare-mongering. It wouldn't
be hard to put that sort of law in place. The current method of effecting
the minds of largely ignorant people is actually dangerous. Lest we
forget, Australia's Rupert Murdoch controls most of the "dumbed-down"
media in the USA (not to mention Britain and Australia). Stations
such as Fox News in the USA is an extreme right wing TV Network, acting
out the wishes of its boss Murdoch, who is in the most purest sense,
an extreme republican. His Fox Network purposely targets "middle
America", where the weakest and least educated people live. And
they live in fear. Fear brought tirelessly and relentlessly into their
living rooms. Murdoch supports Bush and he wants everyone else to
aswell. Fox News is a 24/7 ad campaign for Bush. Please tell me this
is not dangerous! I am putting together an extensive study of the
Fox Network to be published both on irishpirates.com
and The
Lazer Network in the next week.
